Technical glitches notwithstanding, I'm pleased to report that incorporating tech into training is indeed fun, and does help advance my appreciation and understanding of various techy tools and enhanced perspectives.
On Sunday, the cycling group for which I'm a co-leader did our first ride of the season and my Garmin Forerunner 305 went along.
Compared with what we'll start doing a few weeks from now, it was a boring route at a slow pace (while fighting a very strong and chilly wind.)
But it was ever so cool to come home, flick a few virtual switches and find myself with a map of the route to study and admire. It got even better when I downloaded Google Earth and got to see the route almost like being there (without the wind. And the cold.) If you haven't experimented with Google Earth, give it a try. Look at your neighborhood. Look at our neighborhood. Look at my bike route. Whatever.
In the above link I (and hey, you as well) can also admire all the graphs and charts showing pace, elevation and heart rate comparisons. Graphic proof, at around Mile 45 in the elevation chart, that Churchill in Bergen County really is a big hill.
Again, none of this directly relates to what we do at work. But it does give me a whole new way of seeing and understanding some of what I do in my daily living -- and THAT does very much relate to work and our efforts to see and convey the news in different ways.
